The delicately carved face beneath the elaborate coiffure imparts to this prestige staff an air of quiet dignity. Most
likely representing a female ancestor; the woman's status is indicated  through the elaborate coiffure as well as
facial scarifications. The staff, which would have been owned by a Chokwe chief as part of his or her regalia,
imparts fertility and positive results. The rich worn patina indicates extensive use.
