Headrest/stoool, Dinka Rek peoples,
Southern Sudan
8" tall x 25.5" long
wood, metal, beads, rope
mid 20th century

A well balanced and well used headrest/stool with
an honest wonderful worn patina. The Dinka Rek
people are largely pastoral and the rope would have
been used to make this headrest easier to transport
by its owner.

Metal inlays outline the object nicely and suggest
faces for the animal heads at each end. I'm not sure
what the design in inlaid metal on the center leg
represents, but most likely a bird.

The long curving lines makes this an especially
elegant form.
