Pokot or Karamojong headrest / small stool, Kenya/Uganda
7in wide by 6in tall (17.8cm by 15.2cm)
wood, leather, pigment
collection of Chris Doane, CO
A nice small stool which could also serve as a neckrest. I like that it has its braided leather handle intact. It has a nice patina and I especially like the curved section of one leg where the wood has a wrinkled skin-like appearance. That leg is missing a small section of the bottom toe of the leg. The ethnic names for stools like this were: ekicolong emesa (Karamojong) and kubtapongumy (Pokot)
