Due to the size of this figure it could have been a figure used in divination or could possibly have been the top of a staff. The patina suggests a figure that was handled extensively which leads me to believe it was more likely a figure used in divination. It would have been part of a female association called Sandogo which promotes women’s knowledge of healing, divination, and social order.

In any case it’s a wonderful figure with a great expressive face. I especially love the representation and positioning of the hands and feet on the figure.
